LeanRead is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

Data We Collect

LeanRead collects minimal data to provide the service:

Article URLs: URLs of articles you choose to summarize
Summaries: AI-generated summaries of articles (stored locally in your browser)
Usage data: Basic anonymized metrics about extension usage

We do NOT collect: Your browsing history, personal information, passwords, or any data from pages you don't explicitly summarize.

How We Store Data

Local Storage: All summaries are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. We never store your summaries on our servers.
You Control Your Data: You can delete summaries anytime from your library within the extension.
No Cloud Sync: Your data stays on your device and is not synced to external servers.

Third-Party Services

LeanRead uses these trusted services to function:

Anthropic Claude API: For AI-powered summarization. Article text is sent to Anthropic's API, processed, and not permanently stored. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Jina AI: For extracting article text from web pages. See Jina AI's Privacy Policy.

Article content is processed temporarily for summarization only and is not retained by these services beyond what's necessary to generate the summary.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to third parties. Article content is only shared with our API partners (Anthropic, Jina AI) for the sole purpose of generating summaries, and this data is not permanently stored or used for any other purpose.

Your Rights

Access: You can view all your saved summaries in the extension
Delete: You can delete individual summaries or clear all data anytime
Control: You decide which articles to summarize
Uninstall: Removing the extension deletes all locally stored data

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of LeanRead after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
